Low-card, low-calorie, detox, cabbage soup... there is no shortage of novelty diet programmes that promise to make you lose weight fast
The big question is do they work? Most do lead to fast – sometimes dramatic – weight loss, but only for the pounds to creep back on again at the end of the diet.
More worryingly, many fad diets are based on dodgy science or no research at all, prescribing eating practices that are unhealthy and can make you ill.

Did you know that 63 per cent of students take part in some form of formal voluntary activity during university, with 95 per cent driven to do so out of a desire to improve things or to help people. Volunteering also enhances employability, with half of recent graduates under the age of 30 in paid work saying that volunteering has helped them secure a job!

Pensioners across Britain are rejecting retirement and relaxation in favour of becoming foster parents. Instead of accepting a life of gardening and daytime TV many are choosing to give troubled youngsters a loving and stable home.
