It’s seems to be everywhere you look at the moment as Rotherham Outdoor Market has been voted and acknowledged as the country’s best market by some Britain’s leading market organisations.
The National Association of British Market Authorities (NAMBA) has awarded Rotherham first prize in the category of best street/outdoor market and their national awards ceremony in Birmingham.
Rotherham holds the market every Tuesday attracting as many as 44 different trading stalls offering their goods to the public. I see this each week as I pop down into town on my dinner break, it’s interesting to have a nosey at what’s on show and you never know when something may take your fancy. There’s an assortment of different things available so there’s something pretty much to cover every need and then some, at least at first glance.
If you can identify a gap or product that people may be interested in then why not see if you can join this fantastic and enterprising group (or if it’s big enough and entirely new, why not go the way of the entrepreneur and set up in business) and become a trader? You’ll need to read up on what’s required e.g. licenses, costs, stock etc and any costs you may have to pay for being there or anywhere you set up to trade.
If you’re looking for a way to make some spare cash, markets and car boots etc are a great way to do it and as your own boss you can decide when and where you’ll work and what you’re going to sell. After you’ve got your initial costs and stock together you could continue to operate and trade until such time you find something else to do or the job you want comes your way.
It’s just an idea like so many others and while it may be vastly ignored by many there may be some of you out there that take this to heart and see it as the next step to gaining some form of employment. If so good luck and if not don’t worry it may be a wait and times may be hard but you have to land a job sometime and your day will come, until then just keep on applying, you never know when it might happen!
Tell me what you think to this; is the outdoor market all that great? or don’t you see what all the fuss is about, leave a comment and let me know.
