Have you ever thought that your place of work could do with a little livening up and a bit more fun and laughter? Well, as it turns out your exactly right to think this as overall people are said to perform better for it.
Remember that doing your job needn’t be all work and no play and now you have a valid reason for this (if you couldn’t find one before!) as it’s actually been proven that the ability to add humour into your working day can help you feel happier, relaxed and less stressed. Not only that but long-term effects show that colleagues that can have fun on the job are more likely to be productive, creative and prone to better decision making and working relationships. Another interesting little bonus for employers is that because people then enjoy the atmosphere created at work in these situations their also less likely to be absent, late, or sick than people who aren’t having fun, so it’s a win-win situation really.
The ability to have fun is supposed to help bond the team together and see each other, managers and supervisors included as team players and that they can relax and enjoy themselves too. As long as it’s appropriate in nature, humour can certainly help you lighten up and stop you and others always taking things so seriously, after all it have become a pretty grim prospect if you can’t crack a smile at work.
The list of things go on though as to the benefits, (not that you may have needed anymore after the first few), but if you’ve noticed any office drama or conflicts just being able to strike up a conversation that has everyone laughing can help ease tensions if properly used. It can also alleviate boredom that derives from monotonous and dull routines.
Personally, I think this true we all have our good and bad days, but knowing that your colleagues are comfortable and friendly enough to discuss, joke and laugh with you can sometimes provide that little relief or break you in your work, making you feel better to start tackling it again afterwards. Nothing beats having happy people in the office that understand you and your sense of humour however subtle it may be and that you can look forward to the spontaneous things that can come from it. You may or may not make a fool of yourself in the process, but your efforts will always be appreciated and either way it’ll get people laughing and feeling good, so give it go and see what a difference it makes.
