I wrote yesterday about how the government are considering plans put forward by the Department of Work and Pensions, to push people with mental health problems, terminal illnesses, stroke and accident victims back into work.
The idea behind it being that “they will gain back some dignity that their illness has taken from them”
Well, I decided to ask our Facebook friends what they thought about the plans and here is what they/you thought;
78% of respondents thought It was completely wrong of the department to try to push genuinely ill people back into work.
18% of people believed that it was wrong of them, but it ought to be down to the individual to make that decision if they so wished.
Surprisingly 3% of people said “Why not?”.
Here are a couple of the comments from people;
Rachel; I am fully against the Slave labour idea of making Unemployed working for no wage in big Supermarkets and shops!!
Its ok for people to do free unpaid work with in the communtiy for a few hours a week as it gives a better quality of life to the place they live in and could lead to finding work and looks good that they understand the work effic.BUT to force someone to work unpaid in a CORPRATE companie whos main Project is profit in their own pockets is WRONG. The workers they pay are having issues with the companies over poor pay and standards so how will they treat UNPAID workforce??
Making people who are ill and maybe suffering without being seen(mental health) is going back to the WORKHOUSE factor of the Victorian age!!
Rick; I am memory impaired, and have a terminal disease. Anyone, no matter what the Department should never have the power to do such an insane thing...Work is fine, for those who can do it. I was very lucky and loved my occupation. But EMS and Law Enforcement is not the career for people with Dementia.
