How to create a News Article

Some people find navigating the site and uploading items to it harder than others, so to help you along the way we’ve set up these help guides for different areas around the site that people are likely to use and want to add to.

To update a News story you’ll need to select News from the ‘Quick Links’ drop-down menu you’ll find at the top of most pages to take you to that page, once on it click the ‘Create’ button at the top of the page.

You’ll now be presented with a form to fill out starting with a ‘Title’, this can usually be anything you want, but it usually more efficient and interesting if you keep it fairly short.

You then have the option of adding a thumbnail. When you land on the news page and see the current listing you’ll note a number of the stories have images to accompany them, this is the thumbnail. To add one click on the box in the form then click the ‘Upload’ button at the side of the search box. After this you’ll need to select the button on the left ‘Upload Media’ where you can then select a file from your computer then click to send and save.

Next on your form is ‘Short Description’ this allows you to write a short teaser to tempt people to read your story, try to keep this around 150-160 characters.

Keyword Tags comes next and is an important part of the form, you need to tag words that relate to your article in this box as many as applicable and the more you can think of the more places it is likely to appear across the site. If a tag word is more than one word it will need to be in quotation marks to keep them together, otherwise the system automatically splits them. Also, after each tag you’ll need to separate them with a comma, once your done adding these click the ‘Assign Keywords’ button and it will return you to the form.

Next you can an add a main image, this can either be the same as your thumbnail image which means when you click on the box instead of uploading, you’ll find your previous image listed, just click on it and it will pull through to the form. If you want a different image to display when people click in to read the main article you can go through the upload process mentioned earlier.

Next you’ll need to upload the content for your story starting in the introduction box. Depending on how long your story is, it may all fit in this box, but if not add the first few paragraphs into this box, then put nothing in the ‘Description Details’ box and continue to upload your content as you see fit into Text Boxes 3 and onwards until it is all input.

Ignore the box at the bottom names ‘Private’ unless you wish to become so and click the green ‘Save’ at the top of the page and your story should appear in the listing.
